"I rise at one in the afternoon because I work during the night, and otherwise I can’t fall asleep at night. I work from three to five. I take a walk for a half-hour, to the post office, and from the post office return home through the royal garden – always one and the same route. At home we have dinner. At seven o’clock I go out again for a walk and again home through the royal garden. At home I drink tea and at 10:30 sit down to work. I work till five o’clock in the morning. Then I lie down and, as soon as it strikes 6 o’clock, I fall immediately asleep." Fyodor Dostoevsky reveals his work habits in a letter to one S.A. Ivanova, dated December 14, 1869 (found inDostoevsky: His Life and Work by Konstantin Mochulsky)
